Mike Oliver is a brilliant journalist, top-flight editor and beloved friend. And as many of his literal and figurative teammates know, the only thing more disarming than his wit is his jump shot. Every Saturday, Mike can be found in the gym schooling opponents half his age, draining bucket after bucket.

In 2016, Mike was diagnosed with a rare disease known as Lewy Body Dementia. In Mike’s own words, LBD is “like Parkinson's and Alzheimer's combined.”

Despite Lewy body dementia being the second leading cause of dementia after Alzheimer's, it is not well known. The disease received some notoriety when it was reported that Robin Williams suffered from LBD in the lead up to his death. However, research for a cure currently lacks the funding that accompanies a high-profile celebrity advocate such as Michael J. Fox for Parkinson's disease.

Please join us in raising money to find a cure.

In honor and celebration of Mike Oliver, we invite you to compete in the first ever Mike Madness 3-on-3 basketball tournament at UAB Recreation Center on July 15.
